ST LUCIA

General: Governed by the Saint Lucia Constitution Order of 1978/1979 (independence, February 22, 1979) and the Citizenship of Saint Lucia Act of 1979, as amended (notably a 2024 amendment extending descent rights to grandchildren).

  • By Birth: A person born in Saint Lucia on/after February 22, 1979 is a citizen regardless of parents' nationality, except children born to foreign representatives/diplomats.

  • By Descent: A person born outside Saint Lucia (before or after independence) is a citizen by descent if, at the date of birth, a parent — and, following the 2024 amendment, a grandparent — was a citizen by birth (or was eligible for citizenship at the time of independence).

  • By Registration: Available to a foreigner married to a Saint Lucian citizen (living or deceased), subject to government approval, and to certain adopted children (where an adoptive parent is a Saint Lucian citizen).

  • By Naturalization: General route requires roughly 7 years of residence and/or government service preceding application (Commonwealth citizens have a somewhat streamlined path; non-Commonwealth "aliens" must first renounce any other citizenship before naturalizing). A Citizenship by Investment Programme (from ~US$100,000–240,000+ depending on option, established under the Citizenship by Investment Act of 2015) offers naturalization without residency.

  • Dual Citizenship: Permitted, with no general restriction — Saint Lucia does not require renunciation of prior nationality for citizenship by birth, descent, marriage, or investment (though non-Commonwealth aliens naturalizing through the standard residency route have historically been required to renounce other citizenship first).

  • Loss of Citizenship – Voluntary: Renunciation is permitted by law upon formal application (via the Ministry of Home Affairs / Civil Status Registry).

  • Loss of Citizenship – Involuntary: Naturalized citizenship obtained through fraud or falsehood can be revoked; citizenship can also be lost upon conviction for treason against the government.

  • Two completed copies of the official citizenship application form.

  • Certified birth certificates of the applicant, parent, and grandparent (depending on lineage tier).

  • Marriage certificates or divorce decrees mapping the lineage.

  • Certified color copy of your valid US passport bio page.

  • Four identical passport photos (2x2 inches) certified by a Notary Royal.

  • A certified Police Certificate of Character from your current US state of residence.
